Carbonite backup before Windows 7 migration

Carbonite 3.7.6 protects valuable files in case of hard drive corruption during an upgrade and provides reliable file migration system for moving files from Windows Vista or XP to Windows 7. Carbonite backs up photos, music, documents and other valuable files using an encrypted system and secure servers. Once the Windows 7 installation is complete, recover and restore files using the Carbonite Restore Wizard.

To prepare data for an OS upgrade, Carbonite recommends a five-step process:

  1. Plan ahead: Before installing the new OS, establish an appropriate plan to back up and secure data. Include timing, arrangements, process considerations and reinstallation of data.
  2. List your inventory: Start with the important documents you don't want to lose. Then list the photos, music, financial records and other important files.
  3. Allow adequate time: The more data you have to back up, the more time it will take. Don't rush it.
  4. Have a backup plan for the backup plan: Before you start to back up your files, use a comprehensive approach that includes a combination of online backup, external hard drives, DVD disks or other methods.
  5. Test it: Before you go ahead with the OS migration, test your backup. Do a complete trial including backing up a variety of file types and retrieving them.
