Black Brown 1826

Black Brown 1826 is a modern lifestyle collection inspired in classic Americana but with elements for the modern man. Bearing a brown label, it consists of both collection and classification sportswear as well as dress furnishings, tailored clothing and key item programs for cashmere and merino sweaters. Plus, Lord and Taylor's top 9 doors also offer Black Brown 1826 L.U.X., fashion forward in styling and detailing and constructed of luxurious yarns. Labeled in black, the L.U.X. product is comprised of tailored clothing, dress shirts and neckwear made from Italian fabrics. The LUX line will also have a full sportswear collection aimed at a better consumer with premium ticket prices and it will offer made-to-measure dress shirts.

On September 4, 2008, Jane Elfers, President and CEO of Lord and Taylor, announced that Black Brown 1826, the store's new exclusive menswear collection, is on display in its Fifth Avenue Windows, through September 22. "We are so proud of Black Brown 1826, we are showcasing it during New York's Fashion Week," Elfers said. "This is a first for the store but we wanted the entire industry to see how extraordinary the collection is." Shown in abstract mannequins from Ralph Pucci the beauty of the natural fabrics and the textural quality of the line is reinforced by a selection of Tucker Robbins' furniture and accessory designs made out of layers of objects found in nature. To emphasize the point further, stunning blow-ups of images from the advertising campaign for the launch of Black Brown 1826, printed on woven linen, are used as backgrounds in most of the windows.

Black Brown 1826 is also featured in Lord and Taylor's advertising and men's fashion catalogues for Fall. About the label's unusual name, Jane Elfers explained: "Black and Brown are representative of great men's colors: street smart and country wise. And 1826 is the date in which Lord and Taylor was founded."
