Part of paperlessness is getting information from ink on paper to electronic text as fast as possible. On December 30, 2009, Shape Services announced the BlackBerry release of its bestselling Business Card Reader app.
Business Card Reader makes a scan with a BlackBerry camera, then reads business card information using OCR and inserts contact details into the appropriate fields of the contact info in a BlackBerry address book.
The first version of Business Card Reader recognizes business cards in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. More languages will be added in the future versions.
Shape's business card reader app is useful to professionals who collaborate with clients, partners and colleagues at work or salesmen in personal life. It would be a particularly useful tool for trade show exhibitors, exhibition attendees, and sales personnel.
