Greek Wine Guide : Greek wine industry and its producers
|
The Greek wine industry and its producers are at long last being given the high profile they deserve in the United Kingdom -- the first Greek wine guide to be published in the U.K. is due to be released at the end of February. The author Geoff Adams is a wine journalist and wine-writer based in the U.K. who has regular columns in newspapers and magazines in his country, as well as speaking live regularly on BBC radio about wine. In February 2002 he was invited by the Greek Oenologists Union and Ad. & E. S.A to participate as a member of the wine-testing committee at the "sensorial testing of wines", which was held during the 15th International Food and Drinks Exhibition in Athens. Geoff Adams has also been commissioned by Decanter magazine to write a piece about Greek wine for their June 2002 issue. In March he will be making a presentation of his new book "Greek Wines -- A Comprehensive Guide" at the Oenorama International Wine, Brandy, Viticultural and Wine-making exhibition in Athens. There, he will talk about his comprehensive guide, which contains profiles of 75 of Greece’s top wine producers and in-depth descriptions and tasting-notes of over 460 of their wines. Also included are profiles of over 60 indigenous and cosmopolitan grape varieties that are cultivated in Greece, as well as descriptions and breakdowns of all Greece’s wine regions, recent vintage reviews, information about wine-laws and labels, wine competition awards and winery visits. Contributions from resident experts in his homeland about ageing and storing wine, wine with food and some delicious Greek recipes, as well as an in-depth glossary of wine terms are included, making this Greek wine guide a quite broad-based and useful book on the general subject of wine. Primarily the book will be aimed at introducing the English-speaking visitor to Greece and the domestic consumer in the U.K. and elsewhere, to the delights of Greek wine. "Greek Wines -- A Comprehensive Guide" will create a greater demand for Greek wine in what is presently a relatively small share of the U.K. market. Geoff Adams also hopes that his wine guide will prove a useful tool for the wine enthusiast in Greece itself, and ultimately achieve its aim of enlightening wine enthusiasts worldwide about the wines of Greece.
