Locum's US Drug Identification List includes over 600 color identification pictures of tablets and capsules together with names and strengths. This inventory is of value to the pharmaceutical industry as well as to the private sector. This Drug Identification library will gradually extend to include pharmaceuticals manufactured in other countries. The library will be extended to include products of Generic Manufacturers.

August 8, 2003 - FDA Generic Drug Identification for Patent Claims

FDA has determined that it will only allow submission of patents that claim the drug substance (active ingredient), the drug product (formulation and composition), and the method of use (injectable, tablet). Although these changes should enable generic drugs to reach the market sooner, FDA will continue to make the generic drug approval process more efficient with the goal of lowering national health care costs by reducing the cost of bringing safe and effective generic drugs to market.
