Art and Literature about Dinosaurs Competition

The Isle of Wight's popular Dinosaur Isle attraction is staging a free exhibition of entries in an art and literature competition involving schools on the Island.

All local schools were invited to submit original drawings, paintings, cartoons, collages, sculptures, textiles (art) poetry and short stories (literature). The competition was divided into six classes, with separate art and literature categories for primary, middle and high schools.

The themes put forward for interpretation through art or literature were:

Winning entries will be displayed at Dinosaur Isle from Saturday 22 February, throughout half-term, concluding on 1 March when, at 2 pm, there will be an award-giving ceremony. The award-winners will receive travel tickets donated by Wightlink, and first-prize winners also win a free visit to Dinosaur Isle for a group of up to 50 children from their school.

When the Time Team exhibition finishes at the end of March, not just the award winners, but all entries in the competition will go on display at Dinosaur Isle.

Lorna Steel, Education Officer at Dinosaur Isle, said, "I was astounded by the high standard of original work submitted by the schools. We have had everything from truly moving poetry about extinction, to a pair of jeans decorated with dinosaur footprints. We would like to thank everyone who contributed."
