Women shoppers are the future of the Internet, according to a report by Verdict Research of the UK. Their numbers are set to overtake men online within 18 months. They have contributed to a booming online retail market, up 142% in 2001 to account for £3.26bn sales -- but this is still just 1.53% of all retail sales. The growth in women’s participation is strong and in the last year they have grown from 35% of online shoppers to 42% in October. Verdict predicts that on current trends this will rise to 49% by the end of 2002 and 56% by the end of 2003. Another major finding which shatters most preconceptions is about age. The study has found that older online shoppers spend more than their younger counterparts
